Thaddeus Welch (1844-1919) View of San Francisco Bay c1894-1902. in 1894 Welch and his wife, Ludmilla, moved to Marin County and built a small cabin on the slopes of Mount Tamalpais at Steep Ravine. 1894–1902: During these years, the couple lived a secluded life on the mountain, "painting vigorously" and capturing scenes of the meadows, canyons, and coastal views that made Welch famous.
