Granville Redmond

Granville Redmond (1871-1935) California Impressionist Mt Tamalpais over San Francisco Bay c1902-1906. This intimate en plein air landscape captures a serene, Tonalist view of Mount Tamalpais. Materially and stylistically, the painting dates to Redmond's celebrated pre-earthquake residence in Tiburon (1902–1906). Following the widespread destruction of San Francisco studios during the Great Earthquake and Fire of April 1906, surviving early Bay Area works by Redmond are exceedingly rare. This piece likely owes its preservation to being painted and held north of the disaster zone in Marin County. Signed. Original frame has a couple of scuffs. Painting in excellent condition. 7"h x 12"w. Frame 9.75"h x 13"w
