Born in New York on July 1, 1892, George Norman Brown was a formally trained painter who studied at the San Francisco Institute of Art from 1909 to 1910. Immersed in the classic early California plein-air tradition, Brown eventually relocated to Southern California, joining the active regional art enclave of the Laguna Beach Art Association (LBAA), where he frequently exhibited.
