John Pearson - England Repousse Hammered Copper Tree-of-Life Charger 1893. Signed. Color added to original patina. In 1893 Pearson was working in Newlyn, Cornwall, where he had moved to become an instructor at the newly established industrial school.He had previously been a founding member and the senior metalworker at C.R. Ashbee's Guild of Handicraft in Whitechapel, London, but he resigned from the Guild in August 1892. A few months later, he was invited to Newlyn by John Drew Mackenzie to teach copper working skills to local fishermen during times when fishing was slow. He stayed in Newlyn for about six years before returning to London towards the end of the 1890s. Signed. Excellent new patina. 21"d
