Amandus Demandowski

Amandus Demandowski (German/American 1840-1914) Hammered Copper Warty Vase c1910

Amandus Demandowski (German/American 1840-1914) Hammered Copper Warty Vase c1910. Signed with impressed "AD" mark. Having immigrated from Germany to America in 1885, this artist focused on casting and metal spinning. Demandowski's own workshop was only 4 blocks away from the Dirk van Erp and D'Arcy Gaw Studio at 1104 Sutter St. He likely took one of the initial classes at the Dirk van Erp Studio in 1910 as evidenced by the inherent van Erp construction techniques such as the inset bottom and recessed dot in the center of the bottom. This is an incredibly rare example of an unpublished local metalworker that has just recently been documented to have a Dirk van Erp connection and influence. Excellent original patina. 9.5"h x 7"d
