Roycroft

Extremely Rare Roycroft Copper & Slag Glass Chandelier c1905. Made for the Roycroft Inn, East Aurora, NY. Unsigned. Excellent original patina. Very nicely replaced slag glass and milk glass shades. An exceptional and historically significant Arts & Crafts five-light chandelier, originally commissioned for the Roycroft Inn during its initial construction (c. 1903–1905). This fixture represents the earliest phase of Roycroft lighting design, predating the Secessionist aesthetic that came to define the Inn after its 1912 remodel. This fixture is a rare survivor of the 1912 renovation, during which many of the Inn’s original, more "rustic" fixtures were removed to make way for Dard Hunter’s Vienna Secession-influenced designs. While the later geometric fixtures are more commonly associated with the Inn today, this piece provides a rare glimpse into the early, handcrafted "Mission" aesthetic favored by Elbert Hubbard and his first generation of metalsmiths. 52"h x 22" x 22"
