The design directly reflects the architectural aesthetic established by Charles Rennie Mackintosh and his contemporaries at the Glasgow School of Art. This specific British form—defined by its graduated "waterfall" compartments and pierced side profiles—served as the direct inspiration for the later American Lakeside Craft Shops version, which substituted squares for Ednie's original circles.
