Leonide Lavaron – Chicago Bronze & Shell Table Lamp c1905-1910.  Lavaron had visited California and most likely met or saw the lamps created by Elizabeth Eaton Burton.  “The artist came upon the idea of using sea shells for globes quite by accident, when she was on a trip to the California coast.  Holding a large shell up to the sunlight one day she saw that the similar radiance could be artificially produced with electric light…”  June 1911 Arts & Decoration Magazine.  Whether she met Elizabeth Burton or whether Ms Lavaron had her own epiphany, who knows?   Unsigned.  Excellent original patina. 17″h x 14″d SOLD
